Tomorrow is a new day with no mistakes...yet—except the ones already in my manuscript.
A revision update
All is well. Layer by layer my manuscript is getting stronger.
I’d love it to be a very structured process. It’s not. It’s just going word by word and evaluating everything including all my life choices. That’s not entirely true. I have beta reader feedback that has opened my eyes to some things that need work. So there is some structure, some things I know need more depth. But I’m finding lots of other things along the way too.
It makes me think of this Facebook post by Kate DiCamillo the amazing author that wrote many books including The Tale of Despereaux.
The only way out is through so onward it is.
What I’m reading:
This Summer Will Be Different by Carley Fortune.
Loved it! I just finished last night. There’s so many Anne of Green Gable references and it made me so happy. I want to visit Prince Edward Island, more than I already did.
In the acknowledgements Carly Fortune also said this:
“I loved every moment I spent with Lucy, Felix, and Bridget on Prince Edward Island, even my third draft, where I started over with zero words, and even my six, seventh, and eighth drafts, where I kept tearing Lucy and Felix apart in various ways, over and over.”
Even my third draft where I started over with zero words! I would like to hear more! It makes me feel immensely better about revising. I’m not alone. “Kindred spirits are not so scarce as I used to think. It's splendid to find out there are so many of them in the world.”― L.M. Montgomery
What I’m watching:
The Idea of You
And toying with the idea dying my hair brown and growing out my bangs to a more curtain bang style. I tried to find an IG filter to show me what it would look like but could only find the pink haired one from the beginning of this post. This is what AI thinks it would look like if I had no pores, more bosom, plucked eyebrows and brown hair. What do we think? Go Brown? Or pink? Or is this a hair based revision crisis and I should just leave it alone?
Books that take up space on my brain way after I read them:
Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn. I’ve read this book dozens of times. It’s a masterwork in unlikable, yet completely fascinating characters. On a line level it’s stunning. The voice of each characters is great. And I love the first line. “When I think of my wife, I always think of her head.” EEK! Creepy much Nick. If you haven’t read it and you enjoy thrillers you should give it a try.
